Do You Have These Unhealthy Habits?
You may be guilty of having at least one unhealthy habit that you can’t seem to get rid of. It could be anything from indulging in sweet treats, smoking, sleeping late, or heading out to the bar every Friday night. Unless you decide to break free from these bad habits, you can’t honestly say that you’re living a healthy lifestyle.
It’s about time you turn away from unhealthy habits as we celebrate World Health Day on April 7th.
Do yourself a favor by identifying your old and stubborn habits that aren’t good for your health. Goodwill Car Donations shares three bad habits that you should do away with.
- You don’t drink enough water.
If you’re swamped with work, or you’re too focused on a task, taking sips of water might be the least of your concerns. However, your body constantly loses water through normal activities like peeing and breathing. If your body’s water output is greater than your input, you might suffer from dehydration. If left untreated, dehydration could lead to headaches and kidney dysfunction.
Health experts generally recommend drinking six to eight glasses of water each day. However, the recommended amount for those with health conditions affecting the heart and kidney may be different. If you have such a condition, better consult your doctor on the amount of water you need to drink daily.
- You skip exercise.
Inactivity is one of the most damaging habits that can put your health at risk, especially if your job requires you to sit at your desk all day. If left unaddressed, lack of exercise could lead to obesity and an increased risk of developing cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and osteoporosis.
Regular exercise is key to maintaining optimal health. Moreover, exercising for 150 minutes per week (20 minutes per day) can do wonders in lowering your cholesterol level and blood pressure. Additionally, it can also lower your risk of obesity and depression.
Exercising is probably the most challenging thing to start and maintain. If you’re not active right now, there’s no need to rush. Start slow and build your way up. Make exercising fun by doing things you enjoy.
- You don’t get enough sleep.
Research shows that lack of sleep can lead to a slew of health issues. Sleep deprivation can compromise your immune system, impair your judgment and ability to make decisions, contribute to weight gain, and increase your risk of developing diabetes and depression.
As much as possible, aim to get at least six to eight hours of sleep every night. To ensure you get the recommended hours, try the following techniques:
- Avoid caffeinated drinks late in the day.
- Go to bed at the same time every day.
- Turn off all electronics an hour before bed.
- Avoid drinking alcohol.
You Can Boost Your Health By Helping Others
Extending a helping hand to the less fortunate members of your community can also do wonders for your health. Putting other people’s needs before your own can reduce your stress and improve your mood, self-esteem, and happiness.
You can prove this to yourself on World Health Day when you donate any vehicle you can spare to Goodwill Car Donations for the benefit of the disadvantaged and impoverished people in your community.
We’ll sell your auto through an auction to raise funds for the life-enhancement programs and services being provided by the Goodwill organizations serving your area.
These IRS-certified 501(c)(3) nonprofits cater to disadvantaged Americans — those who are burdened with disabilities, those who lack education, job experience, or essential skills, as well as those who have other limiting personal issues, such as being welfare-dependent or having past prison records.
Your local Goodwill organizations use the funding we give them to provide their beneficiaries with job training, employment opportunities, scholarships, livelihood assistance, disability benefits, and other essential support services. These services are meant to empower your disadvantaged neighbors to secure decent sources of income through jobs or livelihood opportunities, thus freeing them from a life of poverty.
Donating to Goodwill Car Donations means getting your unwanted vehicle picked up and towed away for free. It also means getting entitled to receive the maximum tax deduction in the next tax season.
Moreover, your act of charity will bring you an immense sense of satisfaction, knowing that you’ll be contributing to the growth and development of your community by empowering your needy fellow residents through work and learning.
You can donate just about any type of vehicle, including one that’s no longer in good condition. Your location should not be a problem since we can collect your donation anywhere in the United States.
